Dancing Keys

Dancing Keys

During the upcoming event, 60 piano students will be paired together to play duets. Music from three living composers, Patrizio Trivellini, Chris DeAngelis, and Manuele Carli Ballola, will be featured. All three composers are instructors at Natalia Huang Piano Studio. Dancers from J CHEN PROJECT and Brown Girls Do Ballet will dance while students play these original compositions on the piano.

Brown Girls Do Ballet works to promote diversity in the arts by way of yearly scholarships, community efforts, and a mentor network to empower girls. Brown Girls Do Ballet will be sending three of their ambassadors to dance onstage alongside pianists and the dancers from J CHEN PROJECT.

Natalia Huang Piano Studio was launched in 2008 by pianist Natalia Huang. Now, the studio has locations in Manhattan, New York; Los Angeles, California; and Greenwich, Connecticut. Huang is thrilled to announce her studio’s upcoming event and looks forward to further sharing the art forms of dance and music with New York.

International Human Rights Arts Festival

About This Show

In case you missed it the first time around, a reprise of Jessica Chen of J CHEN PROJECT’s four commissioned choreographers for the 2017 International Human Rights Arts Festival.

"Dance can help translate unspoken fears and emotions... the nuances of a leg held up, a body launched into space and a gesture of yearning is immensely powerful. For this festival, we will use movement and choreography to enhance the conversation about critical issues related to human rights." - Jessica Chen

Tom Tsai
In his dance works, Tom Tsai exhibits creative, athletic movement, considers themes of identity construction and authentic representation, and fosters audience connection and empathy through personal, poignant performance. Tom sources from his training in Breaking, Modern and Postmodern dance, his multicultural Taiwanese-American background, and incorporates text to reframe, question and investigate the subjectivity of perspective and meaning.

Karla Garcia (Swing on Hamilton Broadway)

Being a Filipino-American, I am constantly inspired by the beauty of diversity in this country. Expressing this celebration and excitement through movement is what I hope to share through this piece!

Heather Robles (Managing Director for The Bessies Awards)

I am not a canvass. I am not clay. I am not a performance. I am not property. I am not a sin.
